Keeping Political Lawn Signs Out of Our Landfill

No matter where you turn, it seems you can't avoid lawn signs for every candidate and measure on the ballot. But did you know they are not recyclable? If the campaigns don't pick them up and they aren't reused in any other way, they go to landfill. I decided to see if we could change that. I worked with RecycleSmart (the agency that oversees our garbage, recycling, and organics service), and we now have a brand new program to address this!

RecycleSmart and Ridwell are partnering to help residents easily get their election yard signs and metal frames recycled for free. You don’t need to be a Ridwell Member to participate. Visit get.ridwell.com/yardsigns and enter your info to see when Ridwell will be in your neighborhood November 25 to December 8. This free pickup event is for single-family and multifamily households. If you managed a campaign and have more than three yard signs, email yardsigns@ridwell.com to contact our team to arrange a pickup. Please remember, plastic yard signs and metal frames are not accepted in your curbside blue recycling bin. These signs must be collected through programs like this to connect this material with specialty recyclers across California and the West Coast. Sign up today for your free, convenient collection from your doorstep.
